When conservatives complain about welfare you have to remember that they are only opposed to welfare that doesn't help them.
Tax incentives for business, farm subsidies, small business grants are areas that all or some conservatives support.
Food stamps, health care and other "entitlement" programs that in many cases benefit our poorest citizens are the ones they object too.
Now there is a bit of logic here, since the ones they support are in some ways supportive of business, if not free enterprise.
It should also be noted that they also go to people who tend to vote conservative, as opposed to those who don't.
We now see the dontard proposing to give $12 billion to farmers who are being hurt by retaliatory tariffs. This will of course be paid by the rest of us, as will the higher prices resulting from his tariffs.
So pay more for imported goods and have some taxes go to farmers.
Not the best deal for most of us, and not even a good deal for farmers since they will still have trouble selling product overseas.
It also may violate a number of WTO provisions, but that can take forever to adjudicate.
What will or will not happen with the trade war is pretty uncertain unless saner heads take over, and I don't see any of those around right now.
The more the dontard bellows about them being successful the more you know they have issues.
Obviously he is trying to fix a problem he created when the solution was simply to make American business more competitive.
He has no clue how to do that of course, so we get whatever this is.
I guess redistribution of wealth is a socialist concept and he claims to be a conservative so I guess we have conservative socialism at work.
At least its better than national socialism.

Conservative Values?
If you are in favor of armed murderers using assault weapons, people going without adequate health care, increased Government spending while lowering Corporate taxes, restricting a women's control over her own body, opposing equal rights for people who have different sexual orientations, closing the borders and trying to deter people who don't agree with you from voting, I guess you call yourself a conservative.
Conservative is a term that represents someone who is generally opposed to change. At least that's what it meant at one time.
Now it has taken on a certain radical approach where it wants to make many changes, or as they might think of it, a lot or undoing changes, to make America into something it never was, a bigoted white enclave.
Yes, the founders of this country were in most cases "white", ignoring the slaves they imported, but they weren't all the same. You had your New Englanders, originally Pilgrims who had morphed into whalers and traders as well as farmers. Of course New York had the remnants of its Dutch Farmers and in Pennsylvania you had your Quakers.
Delaware had its Swedish heritage and Maryland was a Catholic refuge and Virginia and the Carolina's were peopled by English émigrés who left for various reasons. Georgia was originally a prison colony.
Much of the interior was still held by the French or Spanish and of course we had the Native Americans.
This was not an America that was terribly united but in general we tolerated our differences, at least until the Civil War.
The immigrants who came here for the first few hundred years simply had to get here, we didn't have a lot of restrictions,
This was a radical country that stood for opportunity and freedom, not narrow mindedness and hate.
We need to remember our roots and keep the American dream alive.
The real American dream, the land of opportunity that welcomes immigrants and promotes freedom
The real America has always been a diverse nation and it has made us a great one.
Let's keep it that way.

Conservative?
People use this term as if it was something everyone understood. There's a definition of it in the dictionary but in usage it represents lots of different things, many of which aren't at all conservative in the dictionary sense.
In the definition it refers to someone who is averse to change, but people who call themselves conservatives are trying to change many things.
From a family values point of view they want to get rid of abortions and eliminate gay marriage.
Those now each represent changes, but they would argue they want to return to the way it once was, but of course its still a change.
Conservatives are trying to change the tax system to give business more money and raise the deficit. These are both changes.
Many people calling themselves conservatives want to define this as a Christian country which would certainly be a major and radical change to the country where religious freedom was a founding principle.
They only want you to be free to practice a form of Christianity.
Of course they ignore Christian values when it suits their purpose and ignore abuse against women and minorities which isn't very Christian at all.
They can call themselves whatever they want but there isn't much conservatism in their positions for the most part.
They make up issues such as political correctness or worrying about what language people speak.
A real conservative would respect our constitutional freedom including freedom of religion. They would respect the principle that all men are created equal with the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
They would represent real American values, not this made up faux radical stuff they call conservative values.
