Who's the Patriot?

Consider a person who did everything they could to avoid serving their country.

Is this person in fact patriotic?

If the reason he can't serve is in fact a moral one, he very well might be, but when the only visible motive would be cowardice, not so much.

So the dontard who avoided the draft pretends to be patriotic.

His general contempt for those who served and suffered has also been displayed a number of times.

Yet he likes to rant about showing respect to symbols that his actions already disrespected.

He has criticized real American heroes who served and were killed or who served and were captured.

Yet he rails against people who risk their careers to make a point about an injustice that happens to their community.

You may or may not agree with their cause, they certainly have the right to draw attention to it.

Football teams play in public spaces with public attendance.

While you can impose contractual obligations on employees, I'm not aware that you can change the terms of employment without mutual agreement.

They could simply stop playing the anthem, it is only fairly recently that they started playing it.

Making the players stand, or assume any other position while it is playing though is probably a step too far.

Good Game, So-So Ads

We got to see a game with end to end action and as it should be the ads were simply in the way.

Of course they cost a lot and of all of them I think the one for tide was the most clever, but when the game is as good as this one is, who cares?

Understanding of course that a lot of people who are only super bowl party fans got to see this, it may have swayed some of them to be more interested in the football.

The game set lots of offensive records and then had the surprise twist in the fourth quarter where the Eagles actually derailed the expected Brady comeback.

Congrats to the Eagles on a great performance although you have to wonder how two teams which have been know for their defense were unable to make any notable stops, except for that last one.

Also a very gutsy call to go for the TD at the end of the first half, it certainly paid off in the end but imagine the risk the coach took if it had failed.

Of course it was the same call, good or bad and for once the risky choice was rewarded.

We have determined one thing for sure.

Foles is a better receiver than Brady.

Nice to see an NFC East team beat the Patriots again, even if it was the wrong one.

Congrats Eagles!

Musings

Well congrats to Alabama they did what they had to do although there were some issues with the officials, it is a hard earned victory.

Sometimes you see things in the news that make you wonder.

There's a new book about the president which indicates that many of his own staff have strong doubts about his intellectual capacity.

In response he tweets that he is a "stable genius" which almost proves he isn't.

I gather that after losing the Alabama senate seat at a meeting with congressional republicans they have decided to present a united front.

Not sure that is what the people who elected him want, but as far as I can determine they just want to see the Government be dysfunctional.

This was the appeal, give America back to real Americans and let them do what they want.

What they want is however not at all clear.

In general there are people in this nation who aren't really in favor of change, either because of religious teachings or just a general feel that change is bad.

So they want to be left alone.

Some of the change is economic where just going to high school no longer guarantees a good paying job.

Other changes are social with same-sex marriage or transgender rights.

Other things concern perceived reverse discrimination.

The appeal of "Make America Great Again" was all about rolling back this changes and societal evolution.

Of course its not really possible to roll back the economic changes, companies are still interested in making profits, and societal progress will continue to evolve.

In some period of time, new jobs will appear and the economy will adjust as inevitably the technological advances spread to improve opportunities.

Jobs in renewable energy, infrastructure rebuilding and industries yet to be invented will sustain our workforce, if they have the right skills.  The Henry Ford Assembly lines are however now manned by robots, so learn how to operate one.
