This Land Is Our Land

America belongs to all of us.

No one group or ethnicity or religion can claim it.

It is we the people, not some of the people, all of the people.

You may like everything about it, or you may want to improve it, but either way, its still your country.

I may find some of what you espouse to be despicable, but it doesn't change the fact that America is big enough for everyone.

You can't define what other people believe is best, although of course you, like them have the right to express your opinion.

So do they.

Changing polices or positions is a very American thing to do, we after all started out that way.

When you condemn someone's opinion as being un-American, you are wrong.

The Bill of Rights defines the right to free speech and freedom to assemble, not just the right to bear arms.

You can look it up if you want.

Politically Crazy?

We live in a wonderful country where you can say almost anything without worrying about legal consequences or censorship.

There is a price to pay on social media if that might bother you but outside of direct threats or slander, you can express any opinion you want.

It doesn't mean the opinions won't be crazy and the consequences imposed by other expressing their opinions may be unpleasant.

Recently a we saw  prominent black entrepreneur express make a comment about how slavery was "a choice"?

That's no a politically incorrect statement its a crazy statement which seems to be part of his new persona.

Now I don't want to make too much out of a musician making statements that both get him attention and might therefore help his sales.

It remains to be seen the impact of that statement and some others that are controversial.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, except of course 400 years of slavery wasn't a choice, it was in fact a hard labor prison.

Slaves who made the choice to leave were captured, tortured, and killed.

The last one wasn't a good economic outcome so generally they were simply returned to servitude.

To say slavery was a choice isn't politically incorrect, its simply crazy.

Free Speech

I saw an article about a high school newspaper in California that ran cartoons depicting the dontard as a Nazi and the police as KKK members.  Now this apparently sparked some sort of outrage which sounds like something that it outrageous itself.

Who cares what gets printed is these high school magazines outside of the high school and local community?  Apparently in today's world everyone does.

Now this was reported by the propaganda group over at Murdoch's channel and I wonder how many times they got outraged by cartoons of the prior president?  I suspect not very often, which is what they should do since all of this is protected by the first amendment of the constitution.

If the expectation now is that you can only send you child to a high school that allows no controversy or free expression, well, I have to say I'm sorry for that child.

Now I grew up at a time when protesting the Vietnam war was an ongoing activity and there were lively debates and cartoons everywhere.

Not sure anyone turned out the worse for it, it was an exercise in freedom.

We also had the protests related to the civil rights movement which also had very lively discussions and unfortunately some pretty lively violence also.

Whatever your opinion is of the current president you have the right to express it.  If you see an opinion you don't like, you can respond or ignore it.

Free speech is a dangerous thing but it also one of the most positive things we have.

If you spend a lot of time defending the 2nd Amendment, maybe you should think about how the first gives you the right to do that and appreciate it instead of trying to suppress it.

Racism on Fox

Some commentator on Fox apparently felt the need to try and suppress freedom of speech by black athletes by commenting that LeBron James should shut up and dribble.

Ignoring the fact that dribbling is probably the least important aspect of his game, why would some one presume that he isn't entitled to an opinion.

Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion and when you decide you have the right to tell someone to do x and shut up you reveal the fact that you yourself should maybe self censor a bit.

I really have no idea who this women is and I don't want to know.  Fox can decide who they want to employ and based on those decisions I long ago realized it is simply not worth watching.

This attitude they have is pervasive where they not only spread disinformation they try to accuse those who don't agree with them of being, well it varies from unpatriotic to ill-informed with many nuances in between.

Its particularly noticeable when they are disparaging minorities or other nationalities.

They cater to a certain audience and they may squeeze in a reasonable argument now and again, but watching Fox is simply not worth the effort.

Of course they have the right to air their drivel, we have the right to ignore it.

LeBron has the right to talk and dribble and shoot and pass and be a person of character as he is.
