Time For It

I suppose if you just believe there is some sort of conspiracy trying to destroy the American way of life you are going to also accept theories about the deep state and people trying to stop prayer in the schools or elsewhere.

Of course the people doing this are not easily identified except as they.

They are ruining our way of life, disrespecting the flag, corrupting out youth, etc.

Interestingly the ancient Greeks executed Socrates for corrupting their youth, so its been going on a long time.

There is of course an identifiable source of all this.  Its been around for ever and is constantly disrupting things.

Its a force that is just about irresistible, although over the years many have tried to stop it.

They failed and those trying today will also fail.

Change is the problem and it simply can't be stopped.

It can be delayed but never stopped.

The Tide of Change

It was true in the early 1800s and is true today, the growing populations in certain areas is predictive of the politics of tomorrow.

It is fairly inevitable and while it takes a bit of time, like the tide it can't be stopped, just delayed.

Democracy is designed to create a Government that reflects its citizens and as the citizens change so does the Government.

Some might not like the changes and want to hold them back as long as possible, but one way to make them happen even faster is to tweak the dragon.

Inevitably we will have a significant change n the Republican party or they will cease to be relevant eventually.

Not everywhere and not all at once, but policies that rely on an aging population that is shrinking as a percentage of the total population can not survive forever.

Its what Democracy is supposed to do, represent the people, the people here now, not some past time.

Its actually a good thing and its happened before.  Many things we considered essential to Government were not even considered a couple of hundred years ago.

Its call progress.

Unpreditable Future

Sometimes you don't realize how quickly things have changed

Many of the things we imagined haven't materialized, like flying cars or commercial space travel.

The changes that did happen are more pervasive and universal.

We sort of envisioned robots that would look like us serving us.

Instead we got devices that look like boxes that hear us and control more and more of the things around us.

Certainly a lot less intrusive.

With a few exceptions we tend to imagine things continuing like we are at a point of time, with certain substitutions.

Of course what happens is technology creates new ways that are not easily predicted.

It also eliminates the need for things we considered essential at one time, like pay phones.

We can spend more and more of our time without having to deal with other people.

You can go to school at home, work at home, shop at home and stream entertainment to your home.

We can have social interactions that involve no actual contact with people who may or may not exist.

Of course some things still require another person, but there are apps for that.

That's an expression everyone understands now that would have made no sense 25 years ago.

Like giving a teen age girl some change in case she needs to contact you makes no sense today.

Economic Change

The world we live in is in many ways already a world of the future compared to how things were even 50 years ago.

We carry phones that are more powerful than any computers available at one time.

We have pretty much instant everything, from entertainment to shopping to even companionship.

We have household assistants that respond to our voice commands and can complete certain tasks for us.

Many of us are able to work remotely have a small carbon footprint and be environmentally aware.

Of course this isn't universal and we still have many people who are living without all those amenities.

Unable to get a decent job, working multiple jobs and seeing little hope for the future.

This division has in many ways defined things like our politics and attitudes in this country.

The major metropolitan areas have benefitted the most from new technology while areas where manufacturing or farming dominated local life have had their struggles.

Both of those industries have in fact gotten more efficient and are creating less jobs.

This is economically a good thing but something that isn't creating as many opportunities as in the past.

This isn't of course the first time we saw this phenomena, it happens every time there is a major change in our economics.

It will of course even out over time and we may see a bit of that already, but that is small comfort to those struggling now.
